Kypria Cyprus International Festival of The Arts


The Annual International Festival of Arts “Kypria” is one of the most significant cultural events in Cyprus.

It was established in 1991 by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Since then Kypria brings to Cyprus musical collectives, theatrical and ballet troupes, artists, film directors and actors from Cyprus and many countries of the world.
The main aims of the event are to make Cyprus a cultural centre in the eastern Mediterranean, to present Cypriots with a variety of high caliber performances by internationally acclaimed companies and to attract foreign visitors interested in cultural events.

The festival takes place in September and October in several locations across Cyprus. The specific events for 2009 are as follows.

1 Sep: A Tribute to Marios Tokas (Nicosia)
2 Sep: Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra presents Mature Youngsters (Nicosia)
3-4 Sep: Boris Eifman Ballet of St Petersburg presents The Karamazov Brothers (Limassol & Nicosia)
6 Sep: Aphrodite Kyrogenia (Kouklia)
7 & 9 Sep: Dien Perry's Tapdogs(Nicosia & Limassol)
10 & 12 Sep The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre Of Moscow presents Cavalleria Rusticana & I Pagliacci (Limassol & Nicosia)
19-20: Sep National Theatre of Northern Greece and Cyprus Theatre Organisation present Bacchae (Nicosia)
22 & 24 Sep: National Theatre of Greece presents Frogs (Nicosia & Limassol)
26 & 27 Sep: Angels Over Berlin & Paris (Nicosia & Limassol)
30 Sep & 1 Oct; The Gypsy Devils & Cyprus Symphony Orchestra present Soul Of The Gypsy (Nicosia & Larnaca)
5-8 Oct: Music and Songs of the Mediterranean (Paphos, Nicosia, Larnaca & Limassol)
8-10 Oct: Jazz with the Petsteppers (Paphos, Nicosia & Limassol)
22 & 24 Oct: Binari, The Spirit of the Beat (Nicosia)
27 & 28 Oct: Martha Graham Dance Company N.Y. presents Clytemnestra (Nicosia)
