Amathusia Festival, Limassol


In July, the Agios Tychonas Community Board creates the yearly Amathusia Festival, to introduce visitors and locals to traditional dance and music. It takes place in the spectacular location amongst the ancient Greek ruins of Amathous in Limassol.

The program includes cultural events that are typical to the region as well as performances by Cypriot contemporary dance groups, string quartets and Greek and Cypriot singers that perform songs in both traditional and modern styles.

Entrance to the festival is free and is held at the Amathous Archaeological Site, and all are welcomed.

European Annual Dance Festival, Limassol


The European Dance Festival is an annual highlight on the European arts and culture scene, takes place in Limassol every May. Dance groups from many European countries come to Cyprus to compete with the Cypriot dance troupes, show casing their excellence in their chosen fields.

This event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre, with the cooperation of all participating countries embassies. Performances take place at the Rialto Theatre. Apart from a plentiful range of striking dance performances, there are also inspiring workshops to take part in.

Koumandaria Festival, Limassol


The villages of the Kourris Valley, one of Cyprus' better known wine producing areas, celebrate their most famous tipple, with this festival. An amber-coloured sweet dessert wine made in the Commandaria. It is made from sun-dried grapes of the varieties Xynisteri and Mavro. It represents an ancient wine style documented in Cyprus back to 800 BC and has the distinction of being the world's oldest named wine still in production, with the name Commandaria dating back to the crusades in the 12th century, is now a popular drink with both locals and visitors.

Alassa, Agios Georgios, Doros, Laneia, Monagri and Silikou are the main participating villages which celebrate in the renowned tipple in July, as well as Limassol itself.
